Welcome to GEN-E 2022

Gen-E is Europe’s largest Entrepreneurship event, a celebration of entrepreneurship and the achievements of European youth. Thousands of European students, from 15 years old onwards, will showcase their cutting–edge business ideas online and on-site. The Gen-E Festival also combines two annual European entrepreneurship contests for the winners of JA Company and the JA Start-Up Programme from 41 countries.

It’s only one week left until JA students can start building their stands in the Virtual Expo! The link to access the Expo site to build stands will be communicated to you shortly. As JA aims to be more inclusive and provide more opportunities to all European youth, the Virtual Expo and Online Awards are open to ALL JA students in 2021-22 school year!

The Gen-E 2022 Online Awards are applied for when setting up the Virtual Expo Stand. Students can already think about visuals and links they want to include in their stand. The final list of Online Awards is available on the Gen-E website dedicated section and here below:

SECONDARY LEVEL (Company Programme)

  • Bata Good Governance Award : This award recognizes businesses that are committed to good corporate governance practices while addressing local and/or global challenges. It addresses UN Sustainable Development Goal nr 8 – “Decent Work and Economic Growth”.

Criteria:

– Governance: Does the company run a sound governance system, with a structured plan with roles/responsibilities and agreed decision making process? To what extend has the company also integrated ethical, transparency and D&I standards and policies?

– Impact: What is the business’ potential for significant social impact and engagement of the broader community? (individual, community, systemic)

– Alignment with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals: Is the solution aligned with specific UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and Targets?

  • Johnson&Johnson Brilliant STEM Innovation Award: This award recognizes mini-companies that have incorporated innovative science, technology, engineering and math strategies and practices aimed at creating positive community impact, in alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.

Criteria:

          STEM Innovation: To what extend is it a novel STEM solution with the potential to solve an existing local challenge?

          Impact: What is the business’ potential for significant social impact and engagement of the broader community? (individual, community, systemic)

          Sustainability: To what extend does the business consider the different dimensions of financial and social sustainability in a conscientious manner?

          Potential market – is the market of the product defined? What kind of a market it is? Is the project scalable?

          Alignment with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals: Is the solution aligned with speci­fic UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and Targets?

  • Intel® AI Innovators Award: Intel® AI Innovators Award recognizes teams who used AI tools and methodologies in their business projects to create innovative AI-based solutions addressing social challenges.

Criteria:

          Innovation: To what extent is it a novel solution with the potential to solve an existing challenge?

          Impact: What is the business’ potential for significant social impact and engagement of the broader community? (individual, community, systemic)

          Applicability of AI: To what extent is the use of AI critical to the solution?

          Responsible use of AI: How the data has been collected? How did the team tackle potential biases and ethical challenges?

          Alignment with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals: Is the solution aligned with speci­fic UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and Targets?

 

UNIVERSITY LEVEL (Start-Up Programme)

  • Novartis Digital Health Innovation Award: This award is designed to honor the transformative digital solutions as response to the most pressing Citizens’ and Patient’s Health challenges of our time.

Criteria:

          Innovation in healthcare: To what extent is it a novel solution with the potential to transform the Healthcare ecosystem?

          Impact on society: What is the business’ potential for significant social impact and engagement of the broader community? (individual, community, systemic)

          Use of technology: To what extent has the team used innovative technology and co-creativity while adhering to Medical Guidelines, GDPR, security, privacy, data flow rules and regulations?

          Alignment with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals: Is the solution aligned with specific UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and Targets?

          Recommendation: make yourself familiar with NextGenerationEU recovery plan by European Commission for ensuring the digital transition as a building block to EU Powerhouse of Innovations.
